Badminton is a sport where the game is played in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Unlike other similar sports, like tennis,
badminton is not played with a ball; it is played with a kind of feathered cone with a cork
head called a shuttlecock. Badminton is a lot more intense than tennis.
How to play:Turn out the racket head which is very important. You won’t be able to hit anything if the racket
is like that. So make sure to turn out the racket head and make sure to hit the shuttlecock in front
of you. The aim of the game is to win points by hitting the shuttlecock through the net and into your opponent's court.
Rule: When you serve you should always hit the shuttlecock from below your waist. The matches usually consist of the best of three game format
with the first player/team to reach 21 points winning the set. The side who wins the game
then goes on to serve first in the next game.
History: The game Badminton was created in India by another name for poona.
The british army officer in India learned the game in about 1870. In 1873 Duke of Beaufort
introduced the sport at his country state, which is badminton.
How is NZ involved:
Since 1938 the Whyte Trophy has been contested biennially between New Zealand
and Australia, and may be the world's oldest surviving inter-country badminton tournament.
